How to take Diazepam/ Valium 10 mg?

The maximum recommended dosage of diazepam is one 10 mg tablet to be taken 2 to 4 times per day. Depending on the condition being treated and the health history of the individual using this medication, the recommended dosage is 5 mg to be taken as directed. For example, for elderly patients or for patients with an adverse medical history, the recommended dosage may be 5 mg, however, the appropriate dosage should always be determined by a medical professional.

Side effects when using Diazepam/ Valium 10 mg

There are a number of side effects associated with the use of diazepam that should be considered before taking this medication. If the recommended guidelines regarding usage are followed, any side effects encountered are usually mild and manageable but can include drowsiness, tiredness, feelings of weakness, changes in appetite, dry mouth and shakiness or unsteadiness.
Less common side effects can include confusion, loss of memory, depression and behavioral problems. As this medication can cause feelings of drowsiness, care must be taken when deciding to carry out tasks such as driving or operating machinery that require a level of alertness.
As previously mentioned, this medication usually only causes minor side effects, if any at all, with more serious side effects only occurring if guidelines regarding recommended usage are not followed.

What you need to know before taking Diazepam/ Valium 10 mg

Certain precautions should be observed before taking diazepam. There are certain circumstances when diazepam may not be suitable for your use. You are recommended to seek medical advice if you:

- are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding
- are suffering  from a condition called myasthenia gravis
- are elderly
- have a history of alcohol or drug abuse
- are suffering from sleep apnea syndrome
- suffer from a personality disorder
- suffer from depression
- are sensitive or allergic to diazepam or any of its ingredients
- suffer from breathing problems
- suffer from cerebrovascular problems
- are suffering with liver problems

As diazepam can be habit forming, continual use for periods longer than 4 months without a break is not recommended. Also, extended long term use can result in tolerance making the recommended dose less effective. When deciding to stop using diazepam, it is recommended to gradually reduce the dosage and frequency of use as stopping use abruptly can result in your condition worsening and lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia and anxiety. If you need any further information regarding the use of diazepam you are advised to consult your doctor as this medication should only be used if your doctor confirms that it is suitable for your use.
